Dear Lovett Families,
Thank you for a great First PTO Meeting! If you missed the PTO meeting yesterday, you can read the meeting minutes HERE. I'd like to thank the PTO Board for working extra hard this summer to prepare for this very unusual environment. To see our job descriptions, go HERE. There are lots of announcements below, so please take time to read through to the bottom of this newsletter.
Reminders:
- JOIN THE PTO! We pack a lot of value into our $15 family membership fee. Plus members will receive the free Lovett car magnet below!
- PAY THE CLASS FEE! This $16 fee covers the cost of the awesome T-shirt below and two class parties. Parties will happen whether they are virtual or in person. Each student is required to pay this fee. (Only 42% of students have paid for this fee so far.)
- VOLUNTEER INTEREST FORM! In particular, we are in need of a Communications Chair (to help with this weekly newsletter) and Room Parents. Being a room parent is a great opportunity to get to know your child's class, teacher and parents better.
We're still climbing the learning curve for virtual school, so hang in there and remember to be calm, patient and kind when working with your teachers on solutions to problems. Trust me, they are as frustrated with virtual learning and all of the technology as we are!

Beginning of School Required Forms
The First Day Packet looks very different this year! First, it's not coming home on the first day of school. Second, instead of paper forms they are all digital this year.
We need these forms for EVERY STUDENT.
Most forms can be accessed through Parent Connect. If you have not yet created your account, go to hisdconnect.houstonisd.org/public and enter the access codes provided in the letter you received along with your teacher assignment letter. If you do not have your parent access code, please email Ms. Sims, ssims1@houstonisd.org. Once logged in, click on FORMS in the left column.
Two additional forms that must be completed are the Health Inventory and Food Allergy forms. Read Nurse Suiki's Welcome Letter and feel free to ask her any questions. You may complete the forms digitally and email them to Nurse Suiki
atsschaffe@houstonisd.org or print them and drop them off in the school office. They are listed also in the Important Documents section of the
Lovett@HOME website.
Renaissance Assessment Tests
- due Friday September 25-
As detailed in "A Message from Mrs. Gaines" email sent from your homeroom teachers this week, Renaissance Assessment tests must be administered at home by Friday, September 25th. Please contact your homeroom teacher for more details if you did not receive or have lost the information.
Elect Virtual or In-Person Instruction for 2nd 6 weeks
-September 21 to 25-
Next week, Sep 21-25, we will all need to elect whether to continue with virtual instruction or to return to in-person instruction for the 2nd 6 weeks. For more details on how to do this click HERE.
Volunteer!
We're looking for a few good volunteers...
Communications Chair: to help with this weekly newsletter and other communications.
Room Parents: to help plan two class parties and facilitate communications between the PTO and your class. It's a great opportunity to get to know your child's class, their parents and the teacher better!
Technology FAQs
Each week we will share new Tech FAQs as we learn about them. These FAQs were compiled with the help of our Lovett Technologist & Librarian, Anne Warner. More detailed Technology Tips are posted at Lovett@H.O.M.E. and on the PTO website HERE.
- HISD HUB Tips:
- How to check the status of assignments: Go to Courses tab > Select a course > Follow up and Reports > Personal Report. This will show if tasks and assignments were completed or not. Green check = done. Red X = not attempted yet. To see instructions with screen shots click HERE.
Teacher Assignments
Don't forget to update your teacher assignment in Membership Toolkit HERE. This makes it easier for classmates to find each other in the directory and assists the PTO in distributing class T-shirts more easily. Also, be sure to pay your Class Fee HERE which pays for the T-shirt and the class parties.
