Words from the Wraparound Specialist

Character Counts Week is from Oct. 16th - Oct. 23rd.

We are highlighting the value of good character and its importance of building strong communities that value positive and healthy relationships. We are asking parents to donate nonperishable food items to our school. The Wraparound Specialist and Counselor will be donating the food items to shelters and churches in our community who help families in need. Donations can be dropped off at the front desk next week. Feel free to email Ms. Prince at cprince3@houstonisd.org or Ms. Pinkney at tpinkney@houstonisd.org. Thank you for your support!

2023-2024 Gifted and Talented Applicant Testing

HISD’s Gifted and Talented Programs serve students who have been identified by HISD as gifted and talented in general intellectual ability. These Gifted and Talented programs offer a differentiated curriculum designed to meet the needs of gifted students by modifying the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program. HISD tests students who were not previously identified as gifted and talented in what is called Applicant Testing. Testing will take place between November 13 and December 15. Firm dates will be available after November 3rd.

The applicant testing of students allows identified students to receive G/T services in HISD’s Gifted and Talented Programs during the Spring of their current school year. All students who are identified as gifted and talented in HISD will retain their G/T identification providing they subsequently enroll in an HISD Gifted and Talented Program upon identification and are continuously enrolled in an HISD Gifted and Talented Program thereafter. Upon completion of the G/T identification process, parents are notified and will receive a copy of the completed G/T Identification Matrix.

Testing Information
1. All paper applications are due by November 3, 2023. You may email the signed and completed application to Lauren Adams at ladams12@houstonisd.org or drop it off in the main office. Please print legibly.
2. Grades eligible to test are Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 5th.
3. Testing is optional and by parent request only via paper application.
4. As the testing window gets closer, a more concrete schedule will be sent out via the Lovett Letter & weekly teacher newsletters.

If you have further questions about the G/T Identification process, please contact the Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Lauren Adams, at ladams12@houstonisd.org.  Click the form below to complete today.

2023-2024 SECOND GRADE UNIVERSAL TESTING FOR GIFTED & TALENTED

HISD’s Gifted and Talented Programs serve students who have been identified by HISD as gifted and talented in general intellectual ability. These Gifted and Talented programs offer a differentiated curriculum designed to meet the needs of gifted students by modifying the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program.

HISD tests second-grade students who were not previously identified as gifted and talented in what is called Universal Testing. This notice is to inform you that this process begins the week of October 16th. An Abilities Test and an Achievement Test are administered universally to all second-grade students for Gifted and Talented (G/T) identification. The Abilities Test and the Achievement Test have been scheduled for October 16-18. Make-up testing, if necessary, will be October 19-20, 2023. No application or parent recommendation form is necessary.

The universal testing of second-grade students allows identified students to receive G/T services in HISD’s Gifted and Talented Programs during the Spring of their current school year.

If you have further questions about the G/T Identification process or testing schedule, please contact the Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Lauren Adams, at ladams12@houstonisd.org.
