Technology FAQs

These FAQs were compiled with the help of our Lovett Technologist & Librarian, Anne Warner.  More detailed Technology Tips are posted at Lovett@H.O.M.E.

  • Virtual Learning Overview:
    • Office365 is used primarily for live classes in the Teams app.  It also has outlook for emails and other features.
    • HISD HUB (itslearning) is where assignments are given and submitted.
    • HISD Digital Resources (clever) is where lots of virtual resources like reading, math and other apps can be accessed and used.
  • HISD issued Chromebook tips:
    • Login = S#######@online.houston.org (use student ID for #), Password = 8-digit birthday
    • Printers can not be added to these devices
  • MS Teams Tips:
    • For iPad/Android Tablet: Click on the Teams app.  Log in using your HISD email (S#######@online.houstonisd.org).
(If you are using an HISD iPad, the Teams app is already installed.  If you are using your own tablet, you will need to download it from your app store then log in with your HISD email.)
    • For Chromebook and PC (web version):
Log into Teams through your office365.houstonisd.org page.
    • For PC (desktop app): Go to  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app and download Teams for desktop. Log in with your child's HISD email (S#######@online.houstonisd.org).  Do not create a new account!
    • Missing meeting - If you don't see a Teams meeting on your calendar for a particular class, contact that teacher.  A faculty directory is HERE.
    • Turn off Chat notifications - Click on profile image in top right corner > Settings > Notifications>select OFF for everything
    • MUTE - remember to mute your mic when entering a class meeting!
    • Accessing Teams Classes from the HUB.  On the home page in the right pane, you'll see a list of your classes with links to Join the Microsoft Teams Meeting for each live class (another way to access the classes).  Be sure that you have first signed into your Teams app or account, otherwise you will be joining as a Guest which will restrict some of your features and abilities.
  • HISD HUB Tips:
    • Login to Google Chrome using HISD account before using the HUB.  Many teachers link to assignments that are Google documents, so be sure you are logged into your HISD Chrome account when you access the hub.
    • Opening and submitting assignments. There are a variety of ways assignments can be posted and completed in the HUB.  If you are having difficulties submitting an assignment, communicate this to the teacher and give as clear a description of what is happening as possible.  Remember, the teachers are still learning this system just like we are!  We're all on the same team!
    • How to Check the Status of Assignments.  Go to Courses > select a course > Follow up & Reports > Personal Report.  This will show if tasks and assignments were completed or not.  Green check = done,  Red X = not attempted yet.
  • Low-tech tip:
    • Set alarms to help remind your student/s to login for their next class.  Smart devices (iphones/ipads/alexa) are great for setting multiple alarms.
